Random Hot Sh!t Vol.1
Wow... just look and admire.
In honor of Bass Sessions, DJ Craze's monthly event thrown @ the ever-so-swagnificent Studio A nightclub, an interview from the Miami New Times.
2 song leaks from DJ Drama's album:
Pharrell x The Clipse = Cheers
Pros: Just listen to the 3rd verse.
Pharrell's paying homage to his new home of Miami, FL. And it's not half bad.
Cons: Still no sign of a full-on Neptunes comeback.
The Clipse are STILL on that coke shit...Sounds great but some content expansion would be nice.
Outkast feat. Marsha Ambrosius of Floetry = The Art Of Storytelling Part 4
Pros: Listen to Andre 3K's verse.
Listen to Big Boi's verse.
Cons: Noneatall.
And to get the jump on New Year's Eve parties, our homie Benzi is throwin' a little soiree:
Pros: Benzi's parties and mixtapes are the things legends are made of.
Wine, Women (and Men) and Song!
Exclusivity is sexy.
Cons: $130 is pretty steep for an RSVP.
And you can't go to a NYE party without proper shoe game...
...so holler @ your local Hypebeast
And there's Volume Uno of Random Hot Sh!t brought to you by Paid x Popular. Until next time... never trust someone shorter than you.

Too much $ for parking: Prefuse 73 show review
Review of the Prefuse 73 show @ Studio A this past Friday
Guillermo Scott Herren a.k.a. Prefuse 73 turned knobs, excuse me, performed in front of a 75% packed audience at Studio A (located in Downtown Miami next door to Dance music haven Club Space). Paid x Popular team members Anthony to the S.™ b.k.a. Dee Jay Main Event and me, E.T. were in the building and we spotted a regular in the Studio A crowd, Miami emcee Wrekonize(black shirt next to woman in yellow). Interesting trip getting to the venue, with us almost landing in South Beach and paying $20 for a 3 hour parking pass grrrr =| Oh and shoutouts to the street dweller that "watched" my car for 50 cents and the strip club across the street, HOLLA!
The opening band for the night was Blank Blue. They had a mellow slash emoish sound to them with a female lead, male drummer, and guitarist. The vocals were lackluster with the instruments drowning out the singer. Either a new singer, not necissarily Mariah Carey status but a little more *umph* from the windpipes wouldn't hurt, or simply turning down the volume on the instruments or up on the vocalist's mic wouldn't hurt. I'd much rather hear their instrumentals alone from this band, which were pretty decent.
Pros: bass = good back massage © Main Event along with Hip Hop drums
Cons: Hipsters, for lack of a better word, dancing off beat
The second opener was called the School of Seven Bells and their group consisted of a lead female vocalist (with maraca to boot), a female background singer/keyboardist, and a male guitarist. The singing and instrumentals were much more appealing to the ear drums this go round. They were more upbeat, with their self described "psychedelic" sound. Their "Prince of Thieves" track was extremely catchy and they had my head bobbin' throughout the set.
Pros: using Reason for drums
Cons: "Less guitar, more cowbell!"
After some mating ritual dances occurred amongst a small group of hipsters near the front of the crowd, Prefuse 73 was ready to begin his set. He had the crowd under a spell for his hour long set, which is amazing given the fact that he simply was nodding his head to the music and twisting knobs with the occasional look at his Mac Book screen. Everytime he would fade into another track where he would distort the track and blend it with the next, the crowd would go wild with screams and applause galore. He'd acknowledge the crowd by waving his hands in the air, telling us to get even more hype. His music selection was on point from top to the bottom of his set, ending on a perfectly placed track by O.C., "Time's Up" Prefuse style. He did to the crowd what every man wishes they could do with a woman, give them a climactic experience with the least amount of work possible.
Semi-lastly, shout outs to the barkeep with the ill skills kind enough to have a mini photo shoot with us
And finally, a big "boo scary hipster man, hooray red stripe!" to this dude clamoring for attention on stage here!

Too Hot For Hoodies: Dubai
Here at Paid x Popular, we dabble and deal in lifestyles. And in conjunction with that, we'll be taking you to locales around the world to show how the trendsetters and jetsetters get down on the global playground. Where they go, what they do, what you SHOULD be doing; no matter the situation, we GOT YOU. Partake.
sho cho
Street Connoisseurs say: The grooviest spot in dubai which itself is fast developing into the middle east's party capital. sho cho is a japanese sushi restaurant and club [part of the dubai marine beach resort] where all the local hotties hang out and party. no burqas and jellabas here but the latest designer outfits straight from milano and the attitude to go with it. great music and ditto parties, check the website.
PxP says: From what's been gathered, stepping into this place is like walking onto the set of any given James Bond movie. You know what that means. Bring your A-game or play in the sand! Other than that, enjoy the sushi and shake your respective bottom in the Las Vegas of the Arabic world! 80's nights every Sunday hosted by DJ Elie for all the dance historians if that's the move for you.
Pros: It just looks like money.
If you know your way around a Japanese seafood menu, let the good times roll.
80's dance music minus the coke highs.
Cons: Be prepared to spend. A lot. Your child's college tuition ain't THAT big of a deal is it?
Service isn't known for its friendliness.
If you're not into seafood, the dessert menu and non-seafood items are kinda sparse.
80's dance music minus the coke highs.
Five Green
Street Connoisseurs say: Urban concept store with shop design by local architectural practice dxb-lab, with identity and graphic design by london's kodercraft, a fashion-forward boutique and showcase for art / music / performance / life.
PxP says: It's one of those stores you either know about through word of mouth... or discover accidentally while on the divine search for wisdom and belly dancers.
Pros: Any website with good music and working flash players on it gets a thumb up.
If you're the adventurous type, the clothing selection available (FreshJive, Creative Recreation, Comfort Station) has plenty of new things you can show off to your peers exclaiming "You ain't up on theeeeyus!!!" once you get back home.
They definitely cater to the inner collector junkie in all of us with the art pieces and musical selections.
Cons: Upon first glance, it seems like the kind of place that's so clean that you don't even want to touch anything.
Again. Be prepared to spend. But you knew that already.
For any future suggestions for locale features, don't hesistate to email the staff. Until next time, travel safely and don't do drugs!

Shake It To The Ground...
I heard this hook in a mix by Jokers Of The Scene and fell in love with it. Now that I'm catching the visual and the full song, I can officially count it as a "lust" kinda thing. Partygoers will love it, hip-hop heads will either hump it or dump it (c)Complex Magazine and I myself will probably remix it @ some point in time.\
Pros: "Dat beat got KNOCK though"
"It's a young person really doing it up, son!"
"The video is so cheap looking it's GREAT!"
Cons: "Who else is getting over the whole minimalism movement in club music?"
"Shorty can't RAP!"
"These young girls are being exploited by greedy record labels!!!"

New London Love
----------------

+ First off is anonymous Dubstep wunderkind and self proclaimed "rubbish superhero" Burial.
His second album Untrue- a mishmash of U.K. Garage afterthoughts and suffocatingly rich reverb- dropped November 5th, thus far receiving nothing less than 4 stars from the internet powers-that-be.
I spun the album early this morning, half asleep and hazey, but was instantly swept by just how deep this music is.
Echoing RnB vocals awash in seas of strings and choral samples, shuffling beats switching time signatures mid measure, this is the score to that 3am drive home, knees sore, and ears ringing. Afterglow music at its best.
Highly recommended.
Here's a favorite of mine from the new album courtesy of Missing Toof (check the manipulation of Ray-J vocals!);
Burial - Archangel
And a killer Bloc Party remix from the new "Flux" single;
Bloc Party - Where Is Home? (Burial Remix)
Burial's self-titled debut & new album 'Untrue' and on Amazon or Boomkat in high quality bitrates.
-----------

+ Next up is The Black Ghosts, brainchild of Simian's Simon Lord and the Wiseguy's Theo Keating, in the form of modern gothic romance tinged with a Brother's Grim demeanor.
Horror-esque themes play a central role, and in between offhand melodies and odd progressions, the Black Ghosts find themselves something quite special in dance floor oddities.
Their lead single "Any Way You Choose To Give It" has been a personal favorite of mine for weeks,
and the slew of remixes it's spawned have been certified killers.
The group's debut E.P. "Any Way You Choose To Give It" is available now on iTunes from I Am Sound Records.

Production Credit: Matt Fingaz

For all of you aspiring hitmakers, here's some industry advice from a veteran. Better to hear it from him than the local rapper-turned-street pharmacist-turned-shopping cart attendant.Trust.
What I like about this article is that Matt breaks down some of the realities of the production end of the music business. You can either love it or leave it. No there's no instant gratification. Drunk and hot girls will NOT be clamoring after you put out that next hot single. However, if you're serious about getting into the music business, your product should keep you warm on those nights waiting outside of Lyor's office. And if it doesnt? Well... UPS is hiring at the moment...

This is NOT sexy. Nor a good look.
And more hideousity. Hideousity isn't even a word in the English language. And yet... you can't look away. I'm kinda scratching my head @ why they would call it Venti like you could order it in your neighborhood Starbucks but that's just me. I'm odd like that.

Breakdown: Heaven's Fallout
*Quick Note from Main Event: Get the damn mixtape already!
"Now let the story begin" - Kanye West
Heaven's Fallout Commentary by Mickey Factz
1) Vietnam:
All of my mixtapes start with me going off for about 60 bars or more. I did
about a 100. Its basically bringing people up to speed with what I've
been doing. I love this song alot. When it goes in reverse I'm saying
"best, the, am, I". Read it from the left. Haha
Inspiration : Previous intro's I've done
2) Never Fallout:
I give credit to Nakim for this song. His verse was already written with
the flow. 88 keys said I sounded to much like Jay-Z so we was like lets
show em I can do it all. Crush management got wind of this and thru me
on the official remix with Lil Wayne and Kanye. Then other people got on it
and it was trash. This by far is the best version. It inspired them.
Inspiration: Nakim, 88 keys, Steve-O
3) Talk Yo Ish:
Steve found this chick named Uffie from England. Originally he wanted me
to sample Pop the Glock and talk my shit on there. I wasn't feeling it
like that. I heard Hot Chick by her and decided to chop that up. At
first listen to it, it throws you off. Then the hook catches you. I made
this my single cause its so infectious. One of the best songs I ever
made.
Inspiration: Steve-O, Mickey Factz
Bonus track:
Robot Rock
I came across this joint and didn't know what to do. Steve decided lets
make it an interlude and u just go off. So I did just that. I didn't
wanna make it like vietnam. So him and I added spice to it.
Inspiration: Steve-O, Mickey Factz, Beanie Siegal
Access Granted:
Steve once again found this amazing sample. He brung it to me and it
sounded like a classy fashion record. I wrote the verses and decided I
needed a singer on it. I told my engineer Whytebone to sing the hook.
The rest is history. This song is amazing.
Inspiration: Fashion, Steve-O, Whytebone, Saint
There's Nothing Left:
I wrote this song about my ex. Saint told me about this sample and I
quickly loved the music. It fit perfect with what I was trying to
capture. Sometimes you don't realize what love is until its gone. That's
what I was trying to convey in this song.
Inspiration: Saint, My Ex, Love
Stop Me
I heard this record and I liked it alot. Steve of course wanted me to do
it. He pushed me to record it. I wrote it really quick. Didn't take much
thought. Alot of people loved the direction I took with it. Great
track.
Inspiration: Haters, Steve-O, Mickey Factz
Something About Us:
This record is about my love for music. Its something about music that
won't let me seperate from it. Its that attatched to me. Its probably
the most regular song on here as far as 'weird music'
Inspiration: Music
Bonus track:
Living
This was a regular song and saint heard it and said it was too wild and
wack. Now that's hard to believe. But I trust Saint with my career. So I
listened and made it more revelant to the hook. As well as making it
shorter.
Inspiration: Living, Saint
Sick and Tired:
Precize found this iPod. He always said to me, yo there's this song on
there that you could do over. So Steve hears it and says tell people
what your Sick and Tired of. So I did just that. Whytebone sounds like
he was inspired. Lol
Inspiration: America, Precize, Steve-O, Whytebone
Smack My Bitch Up
Steve wanted to record up until the release of the cd. Lol. He brought
this record to me and I was like ight lets do it. It came out hot. I
like it. We needed some type of reckless talking. So there it is. There's a line in the second verse that I hope people catch. Has to do with peeing.
Inspiration: Recklessness, Steve-O
You Remind Me
I give full credit to Steve on this. I had never heard this commercial
before. As usual Steve calls me taking me out of my zone to do something
else. So I wrote the song in about 20 minutes cause I didn't wanna do
it. Even when I recorded it I aint like it. Who woulda thought everybody
would love it including me. Haha. It was the first record recorded for
heavens fallout. We threw Jesse on their for the final touch.
Inspiration: Steve-O, Cavemen, The Finest Chick.
Freaky Girl:
The last song recorded for the mixtape. My man Freaky Will from ed
banger records came thru and blessed the song as a feature. It was about
a freaky girl. The extra shit that happened was really recorded by me
having sex. Crazy right? Lol.
Inspiration: Fiona, Freaky Will
Loud Whispers:
Apparantly Pre, Pre, Precize was playing around one day and made a beat.
The shit sounded weird as hell but because we're doing Heavens Fallout
it was perfect. I didn't know what to talk about till a certain
situation involving my sister happened. She was the reason for this song
and the reason why I don't speak anymore.
Inspiration: Saint, My Sister, Precize
Let You Go:
During the recording process for this mixtape my engineer, Dub-B A.k.A
Whytebone changed his sound along with me. He started digging up records
and suggesting things. This song he sang to and came up with a hook for.
I heard it and recorded it in 40 minutes. Alot of real shit was spat in
that song. Me and Whyte went back and forth on the final results but its
still hot!
Inspiration: Whytebone, Chicks
Living Dead:
For this cd I've expanded my range in music and I came across Bjork. Now
I thought she was weird as hell but musically she's amazing. This
paticular song talks about 3 situations. 1) For non-believers in Mickey
factz, writing me off as dead. 2) My family members. 3) Hip Hop.
And of course Whytebone without me saying anything came up with the
hook. Amazing. He's a star.
Inspiration: Bjork, Bullshit
Breathe:
My favorite record on the mixtape. The intro alone zones me out. I've
heard people say this is an amazing song that is so refreshing. I'm just
happy to breathe. That's why I wrote it. I broke down Microsoft Word
applications in that shit. Find it. Lol. Kudos to Saint.
Inspiration: Saint, Life.
Jacobs Ladder:
Wow. This song right here means alot to me. As I was writing the hook to
this song at 5 am, Saint was writing the thesis of the mixtape. Without
us knowing what each other was doing. Because of that, I put his thesis
as the intro and outro of the record. It may be long but that aint no
coincidence. That's me singing on the record too. I love this record. So
inspirational.
Inspiration: Life, Saint.
The Supra Song.
We came back from China pumped. So the first night we got back together
we fooled around and made a song about Supra's. Steve killed it, Saint
murdered it, I was ight. Lol. Jocelyn didn't wanna be on it and Precize
manhandled the hook and beat. Instant classic. Don't be surprised if we
get our own sneaker.
Inspiration: GFC, Fashion

Nothing's Ever Promised Tomorrow Today

Info from Allhiphop.com
"Dr. Donda West, Kanye West’s mother, suddenly died last night, individuals close to the rapper confirmed.
The cause of death was not released immediately, but she was reportedly in the Los Angeles area when she died.
She was 58 years old."
This great woman's life should be celebrated as a grand success. She taught English and was the Chair of the English Dept. at Chicago State University for 31 years before eventually becoming her son's manager. A single mom with a Doctorates degree raising her son to become just as/even more successful than she was, a dream that every parent dreams and strives for.

Public Enemy #1...Killa is Back!!!

Ok its been awhile since anyone has heard from Diplomats own Cam'ron, despite all the rumors about a dip set break up and the controversy thats been happening with Jim Jones. Last we heard from Cam, he did a youtube video addressing 50 cent and explained that its gonna be a hot summer. After the video, the world went a summer without Cam'ron. According to him, his mom had suffered a stroke and was forced to take time off.
It is now November and he's back with a new double disk mixtape, Public Enemy #1, where he touches on a few topics that have occured while he's been gone. Before the release of his mixtape, he informed nyc's hot 97 radio station that he will be at the Apollo theatre, personally distributing his new mixtape. Paid and Popular took a trip to the Apollo theatre to witness the event. Check the Footage Below...

Jay-Z Purchases Artful Dodger for $15 Million
Excerpt from Allhiphop.com article:
Jay-Z continues to make waves in the fashion industry, as the mogul announced that he has formed a new company Scion LLC, a joint venture between Jay-Z and Iconix, the company that purchased Rocawear for $204 million in cash.
Jay-Z acquired the Art Dodger clothing brand for $15 million dollars in cash.
Artful Dodger is a high end apparel brand sold in boutiques and specialty stores in the United States and the United Kingdom.
The clothing brand is named for the 19th Century Artful Dodger , who led a group of young men in mischief throughout the UK.
Scion LLC has licensed the Artful Dodger brand to Signature Apparel Group to create Artful Dodger men’s and women’s sportswear.
Artful Dodger founder Scott Langton will stay on as creative director for the brand.
"Artful Dodger is an incredible brand with a lot of room for growth and Scott Langton is a visionary designer," Jay-Z said. "They represent what's next and new in fashion and we are glad to have both the brand and Scott as a part of our family. Artful Dodger represents the first of many acquisitions that will begin to shape our joint venture with Iconix."
The mogul continues to expand his 40/40 franchise as well.
